This is a simple Jig to make and works great for making repeatable mortises. The table I’m building will have a cross brace in the center made with a lab joint. The cross brace will connect to the legs with 2 inch mortise and tenon joints.
1. I start by ripping two strips of wood at three eights of an inch And then a larger piece for the center at about an inch and an eighth.
2. I attach the pieces back together leaving a 4 inch gap on one side to create a guide for the router.
3.Half-inch plywood shoulders are attached to the center piece.
4. The jig slips over the work piece and is clamped into position.
5. To cut the mortises I use a Stagger Tooth plunge cutting bit in a plunge router.
6. Four Perfectly cut mortises.
