Thanks to everyone for all of the great comments on Jon’s top bar beehive that unfortunately didn’t make it through the harsh New Jersey winter.   Tons of great info, and it’s nice to see so many avid beekeepers tuning in and commenting so that’s really helpful.  Here’s a video about making a simple honey gate to harvest the honey from the hive.  This harvest produced about 16-18 pounds of  really tasty honey and a second hive is in the works for this spring…we’ll also be posting some easy to make recipes with the fresh honey. – Peder Hagberg, Editor

The simple honey gate worked really well. This harvest was about 16-18 lbs.
