This is a step-by-step video on how to install the Blum Tandem plus Blumotion Undermount drawer slides. I’ll be using undermount drawer slides on the Chest of Drawers project that I’m starting next week. I thought it would be a good idea to take a minute and build my skills with this shop cabinet. I hope you found this video helpful and if you are looking for a furniture project to build.
I’ll be using the Blum Tandem Plus 15″ drawer slides. If you’re using 15″ slides, make your drawer 15″ deep. Make sure you accomodate the drawer size for the thickness of the drawer material.
After cutting and assembling the drawer, we’ll install it into the cabinet. First, I pre-drill and countersink the screws to assemble each drawer. With the drawer built, I’ll cut the bottom to width and drop the bottom into the drawer and trim the excess.
To install the drawer slides, I need to drill a small hole to accept the slide pin. I move the slide into position and tap a small mark where the hole needs to go. With the slides in place, I’ll use a self-centering drill bit to pre-drill holes in the front to attach the clips.
With the drawers assembled, the next step is to install the slides into the inner walls of the cabinet. I like to leave about 1/8″ of space between the slides and the front of the cabinet and I use the slide holes to allow for some adjustment.
Push the finished drawer into the cabinet until the slides lock into the clips at the front of the drawer.
Thanks for watching and have a great day!
