Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there!

If you’re reading this, I assume you’re a father, hope to become one someday, have grown children as I do, or maybe you’re even a grandfather. In my opinion, there is no more important job than being a father. When you get to be my age—58—you realize just how fast time flies and what truly matters. Looking back, I’m happy to say I’m satisfied with the time I spent with my children. I taught them the basics: how to ride a bike, catch and throw a ball, fishing tips, and even how wind direction affects the waves in the ocean.

Mostly simple things, but those simple moments often become the life lessons that help shape who our children become. Today, I’m incredibly proud of my boys and the young men they’ve grown into, and of my daughter, who has become a beautiful, intelligent young woman. Of course, nobody’s perfect, and that includes me. Even though I’m grateful for the time I spent with my kids, I still find myself wishing I had spent even more.

It’s easy to get caught up in the stress of life and the things that seem so important in the moment. The truth is, the stress and the problems will always be there. But before you know it, your five-year-old is 25, and you’re wondering where all the time went. So take it from me, slow down. Play catch. Go out for ice cream. Make sure that the fishing trip happens. Spend the extra hour together. Those moments matter more than you realize, and someday you’ll be glad you made the time.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Father’s Day, and I’ll see you next time in the shop.
