Welding is becoming more and more popular in the maker community so I thought it would be fun to show some of my steel sculptures and talk a little bit about the artists who inspired me as a sculptor.  Here’a a video talking about the sculptures in my yard, and also a bit about Spring lawn care and what I use to keep my yard in shape.

If I were to suggest one book to help you get started it would be Picasso and the Age of Iron.  This book five artists and they all had an influence on me as an artist and metal sculptor.  The artists were Pablo Picasso, Julio Gonzalez, the American artist David Smith, Alexander Calder, and Alberto Giacometti.

Here are a few of my metal sculptures that were all done in the mid to late 1990’s.

A figurative piece with found objects that I made about about 22 years ago before the birth of my first son Jack.

Another piece from the late 90’s that was inspired by Alberto Giamometti’s ‘Spoon Woman’.

I moved this sculpture a few years ago to the front of the yard and made a cast concrete base to secure the steel piece. This sculpture was inspired by the artist Anthony Caro.

My scrap steel pile that becomes the inspiration for many of my sculptures.
