Never Was so much owed by so many to so few…
Winston Churchill referring to the RAF crews fighting during the Battle of Britain.
My Dad was a pilot (not a fighter pilot) when we were kids we spent a lot of time at small airports and would go to air shows. My brother Jim became a pilot and in my late 20s, I started to make these paintings. When I made this painting my three sons were babies. Today they are the same age as the brave young men who fought in the Battle of Britain.
This project is a mounting board that I made more than 20 years ago. It has 169 French cleats mounted on the board and on each cleat hangs a small painting box made of wood and steal. All of the boxes come together to make the finished art piece.
This piece is very interesting. It’s comprised of a series of small boxes that hang on the French cleats to form a single image.
First, I’ll unbox the old painting and begin making the frame. After assembling the outer and inner frame, I add a quick coat of paint to the inner frame and a coat of sealer to the outer frame.
Once the new frame is dry, it’s ready to hang. It’s nice to have this old piece hanging in the house again. Thanks for watching, see you next time!
